Description: Blackbird is an experiment in Pink Floyd's earlier writing techniques. It's based on continuing a single bass/rhythm line and building instruments on top to make chorus/verse type arrangement. Although nothing like "Welcome to the Machine", it is somewhat of an homage to the song in that it uses this style of writing and uses the "machine" as a metaphor in the lyrics. It's a dark song. It's about every day work, the grind, and how it wears you down while making money for others. This song is a musical expression of that. Its art, so it's much exaggerated. Keep that in mind. It's not personal account of anyone in the band.
Black bird sittin? on a post Tellin? me that I?m gonna be his ghost Taking his time, just a reading my grave Showin? all the people that I been too brave
I could throw it all away I can?t tell what any of it means Their success is my fatigue They let me rot to fill their dreams
INTERLUDE
One more job, one more page You?re a private fucking joke to the keepers of your cage The machine moves on to someone new It?s their turn to choke on what you knew
SOLO
Black bird he?s been lookin? at me Hinting to me I should be in my grave Kicking around on a breath and a hope Lookin? back on life through a haze of smoke Let me off the machine, can I rest for a while? For you, I suppose I?ll leave my bones in the pile
Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?
Come on, now. I hear you're feeling down. Well I can ease your pain, Get you on your feet again.
Relax. I need some information first. Just the basic facts, Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'. When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons. Now I got that feeling once again. I can't explain, you would not understand. This is not how I am. I have become comfortably numb.
Ok. Just a little pinprick. There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh! But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up? I do believe it's working. Good. That'll keep you going for the show. Come on it's time to go.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown, the dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb.
I don't know what you see in me Let's take a count, not 1, but 2, maybe 3 When I'm misbehaving, they like to feed to me Rainbow pills - 1 red, 2 blue, 3 green
I'm mighty fine, me myself and I I'm mighty fine, say the voices deep inside
I don't know what I see looking at you Hallucination, delusion and illusion too When I misbehave, they wrap me up cozy In a tight white coat, with buckles so shiny
We're doing fine, we skip and twirl with glee We're so divine, John and Syd and Crazy Me La-la la-la la-la, La la-la la-la la-la
SOLO Interlude (boom-boom-chick? ahh x4)
You think I'm a schizo, but it just can't be 'Cause there's no such thing, so let us see If I'm not one of those split personalities I must be just a nutbar, yah I'm just crazy!
I'm crazy me, me myself and I We're always right, says me and Phil and I La-la la-la la-la, La la-la la-la la-la
Description: A beautiful acoustic tune, "Crossroads" is a song about choices and friends. This tune was written by Pete several years ago and features him on the lead vocal, and considering the beauty of the song, it's about time it was recorded for the rest of the world to hear.
Some of us love unconditionally Never judging; always caring They lead us by example Loving unconditionally
It's a big world One we all share So many people But some are rare Some call him uncle Some call him friend I know a girl who calls him husband I call him Dad?
They stand behind us And teach us what is right They stand in front of us And help us to take flight
When we feel lost When we feel weak He's always strong He helps us to our feet
CHORUS
In the face of adversity He would show me his smile Then he tells me he loves me And then we talk for a while
Time we spend together Under the sun Laughing and joking Just having fun
CHORUS Yah he's my... Dad Yah I love my... Dad I call him... Dad
Description: A song orignally written about an online game, "Dark Majesty" features a cool bass groove fingered out by Wy. This tune combines hard and soft passages as it tells a story of an evil demon against the people of a mystic time.
Dark clouds gather up above Run and hide with the ones you love The storm is coming; I see it in your eye There are warnings written in the sky The Dark Majesty comes to us today She can bleed away all the light of day Up from the depths of her evil hive Maiming anything she sees alive
A flash of light and then you return To the life-stone where you were born A great army gathers in the land To face her now and make their last stand
And she comes today With her brood today And she hunts today No mercy today The Dark Majesty!!!
Last chance for all of mankind With the swords drawn high and magic in their mind The leader stands on high giving his commands Hoping there's the might for what the task demands
Oh ohh ... Oh ohh ...
A flash of light and then you return To the life-stone where you were born A great army gathers in the land To face her now and make their last stand Last chance for all of mankind With the swords drawn high and magic in their mind Leader stands on high giving his commands Hoping there's the might for what the task demands
And she comes today With her brood today And she hunts today No mercy today The Dark Majesty!!!
Description: Crunch and thump? Yah? You want it? You gotta have it? The angriest of songs from PastMidnight, "Discontent" will make your tweeters bleed and your woofers jump out and smack you upside the head. Put on your favorite helmet and goggles, and crank it to 10 !!!
Description: Edge of a Sword was written as a tribute to the loss of a close friend I haven't seen in 20 years. We grew much of our taste for music together and often while writing I would think of him and wonder if he would like the music. We spend much of our time buried in life and the moment, always trusting that we'll have time to see and talk to our old friends again. That isn't always the case. Try to connect sooner, not later, or you may regret it.
In memory of Brent Swackhammer and all of those who left us too soon.
Description: The fourth song from PastMidnight, and their second upbeat rock tune, "Eighty" was derived from a smokin' riff that Pete was playing one day, and Quentin figured it had a real 80's feel to it. The crunchy guitar, and driving beat will transport you back to a decade where Rock & Roll was king. Through this anthem's lyrics, you will see the 80's the way that Pete & Quentin saw it - a great time, with great tunes and tight-fittin' jeans.
Hangin' on the corner on a Saturday night Watchin' all the fine ass walk on by Now it's baggy pants, hangin' to their knees Thinkin' that they're lookin' so fine Used to be girls that could blow apart my world Make me feel all right all night They cut off their hair; don't care what they wear What the hell's wrong with them?
I want the girls with the big-ass hair Red gloss lips 'n' tight-ass jeans I want a girl that takes me there fast Guess work's gone - I see she's my dream I want, I crave an 80's girl!
Cruisin' in my car on a Saturday night Cranked it loud when the solo played Listen to the bands on the radio now You get no guitar solo today Tired of all the talkin' to the drum machine To hear some vocals sing would be my dream Now it's all rap - it's a pile of crap I'd rather hear the singer scream
I want the songs with the whalin' guitar Where the solo sweeps me off my feet I wanna singer who can sing my song Doin' more than just talkin' to the beat I want, I crave an 80's song!
I want long hair done up right I want the jeans painted on tight I wanna hear the solo sweet and long I wanna hear a singer who can sing my song Want the good times of the 80's again Bonfire bush-parties 'til the end!
SOLO
Used to be girls that could blow apart my world Make me feel all right all night They cut off their hair; don't care what they wear What the hell's wrong with them? Listen to the bands on the radio now You get no guitar solo today Tired of all the talkin' to the drum machine I'd rather hear the singer scream
I want the long hair crazy and teased Gotta have her ass fittin' tight in her jeans I want the songs with the whalin' guitar I wanna hear the singer song my song I want, I crave an 80's life!

Description: Recorded during a drinkin' an' smokin' evenin', PastMidnight's third song, "Helpless" is a short 'n' sweet tune that experiments with the possibilities of beautiful harmonies.
Description: Song sixteen from PastMidnight, "I Beg of You" was written on an acoustic by Pete one late night as he pounded back the beers. Composed in a single night, and recorded over a couple of days, this tune is the quickest conception-to-produced song from PastMidnight ever, and their strongest contemporary hard rock tune to date. Spooky and alluring, this song will suck you in with it's crunchy hardcore licks, and disturbing lyrics.
I am standing not so far from you And I see everything that you do From the secret place I live each day I?ve got you etched in my brain
I can feel you, you're in my soul It really tears me each time you go I gotta have you, no matter the cost Without you it?s my obsession lost I Beg of You
Infatuation; Is that what you call it? I take a snapshot - you cannot stop it An observation over your shoulder And when I kiss it do you feel colder
I cannot have you but you?re my desire A distillation of my inner fire I can?t compel you, though I may try When you disdain me, I only cry I Beg of You
Kiss me Kill me Touch me Thrill me Push me Slap me Give me Everything I beg of you
SOLO
I cannot have you but you?re my desire A distillation of my inner fire I can?t compel you, though I may try When you disdain me, I only cry I Beg of You
Description: We get together for the first time since New Year 2006 (3 months) and create one of PastMidnight's most beautiful songs. Original writing by our lovely drummer - Megs. This new version (3.x.x) also features Stephanie on keys and Zach on bass.
Father take me down and teach me your discipline Teach me how to be the man I ought to be Mother bring me down and teach me your morals Show me how to be the man I ought to be Everyone is tellin? me that I?m a badass Why is everyone afraid of me I think that you have missed my intentions Can?t you see the rage inside of me
You can beat me down and call me stupid Back from the line ? no fuckin? up my pride Might be tightly wound; others call me crazy Take a look inside ? ain?t nothin? but divine Bust up my clock; the ticker?s in my head Ain?t got a lot of shit, but what I got is time Take away my ride, I still got my feet Ain?t got a lot that?s fine, but what I got is mine
CHORUS
Listen to your sound you bitched up crackhead Your words are never right; a critic out of spite Spin it all around ? you?re the one that?s fucked up It?s shinin? in your eyes, but you can?t see the light J U D G E ? it spells low self worth Try as you might, you can?t get it right Takin? you down ? gonna teach you discipline Show your respect ? tonight is the night
Slag me to the ground and give me the dust off Tell me to obey your crooked way Back another round ? I won?t go down easy Now you?re gonna lay in the bed that you made Now you?re gonna see why they call me a badass Now it?s time to be so afraid of me Gonna make it clear ? you won?t miss my intention Now you?re gonna feel the rage inside of me
Description: We had a little fun one day laying down the tracks to our very first cover tune. This version of "Knights" is more hard rock and edgy guitars than the original Moody version which contained a lot of orchestral backup. Well, sorry to say, we couldn't find an orchestra to play for us during this recording so... we just cranked up the guitars!!!
Knights in white satin, never reaching the end Letters I?ve written, never meaning to send Beauty I?d always missed, with these eyes before Just what the truth is, I can?t say anymore
?Cause I love you, yes I love you Ohh how I love you
Gazing at people, some hand in hand Just what I?m going through, they can?t understand Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend Just what you want to be, you?ll be in the end
?Cause I love you, yes I love you Ohh how I love you
SOLO
Knights in white satin, never reaching the end Letters I?ve written, never meaning to send Beauty I?d always missed, with these eyes before Just what the truth is, I can?t say anymore
?Cause I love you, yes I love you Ohh how I love you
Description: Song number 14 comes from the archives of PeteHeld & Edwin 'Fast Eddy' Malayko. This catchy tune was originally composed by these two guys many years ago, when they used to get together with the 4-track, some beers, and some smoke. Strangely infectious, this tune speaks of the times we just don't need any more of the shit that we get dealt by the other sex, and would be better off if we just 'moved on'.
I never promised you that I'd be part of your life I only wanted to get my head on right You were just a one night stand, but you fell in love with me Now I've got to move on to another fantasy I never wanted to hurt you babe, but? I've got to be free?
I've got to be movin' on; I don't need your harmony I'm just the kind who lives my life; I live my life for me I don't need your petty attitude; it'll only bring me down If you don't lighten up baby, I'll have to be movin' on
What ever happened to the good old days of young? No strings could be tied on to what was said and done Time passes and we march on, sacrificing self-respect Now I've got to move on to another fantasy I never wanted to hurt you babe, but? I've got to be free?
I've got to be movin' on; I don't need your harmony I'm just the kind who lives my life; I live my life for me I don't need your petty attitude; it'll only bring me down If you don't lighten up baby, I'll have to be movin' on

Description: The fifth composition, "OneLight" is PastMidnight's first attempt at an 'epic' song. A broad soundscape leads the listener from the darkness to the light side. Powerful guitar underlays a song with spine-tingling vocal adventures.
Looking to stars; feeling so left behind A grain of sand in this barren desert of time A place so vast; yet within, life clings on A single stone, and a castle has begun
And the light came down And blinded all the sound And the light came down And the desert drowned
Suffocate slowly; heavy weight upon the soul Alone in this mind; gazing deep into this hole Time heals everything - these words are a lie A heart is crushed - a time to cry
And the light came down So loud I could not see And the light came down And dried away the tears
No Jade, No Hate, No Freaks, No Losers One Sky, One Earth, One Mind, One Soul Love Gives, Love Blinds, Love Heals, Love Knows No One but Me
In the span of a day everything can change Once grains of sand, now kingdoms of glass The weight is lifted, the void long gone You know the answer - you took the time to love
And the light came down Couldn't feel a thing And the light fades down Revealing everything
In my head there?s much to see Color galore; you wish you were me Yah, but I?m outta my head
In my head it?s a stormy day Chasing rain in a clear blue sky Yah, but I?m outta my head
In my head it?s a fucked up place Piles of trash; it?s a waste of space Open the hatch - it?s time to bail Crack the walls; I?m leaving today Yah, I?m outta my head
Floating through the fruity-loop sky; find I?m outta my head Flying through the clouds in my eyes; find I?m outta my head
SOLO
Too much crap stuffed in my skull I?m overloading; I?m buggin? out I?ll surf on visions; drift on dreams Outside my head; away from reality Yah, I?m outta my head
Floating through the fruity-loop sky; find I?m outta my head Flying through the clouds in my eyes; find I?m outta my? Floating through the fruity-loop sky; find I?m outta my head Flying through the clouds in my eyes; find I?m outta my head
Description: Song number nine, described as the "EPIC Epic", "PastMidnight" is the signature title track from PastMidnight. Coming in at just under 11 minutes, "PastMidnight" is an aural adventure across a spine-tingling soundscape that titillates the senses, drawing the listener into a world that is described best only by the creators of the name. This song touches on the inner love for a time that is deeply regarded as the most cherished part of their day. This is what PastMidnight is all about.
Just before the dark; the end of the day Creatures are stirring; they're coming awake After the dark, before the dawn They gather together, to spread the song No one around; peace of mind Release the soul - it no longer has to hide Together in solitude, sharing minds Conquering all, in the night
PastMidnight? A time to wake A time to live A time to feel A time to love It's there for you It can hear your soul It'll all be there PastMidnight
Intoxicated, by the music in the mind Starting the journey, few can find Deeper and deeper; drift away Moving further from the static of the day Nectar of the Gods - enhance the trance The sight within, begins to dance Brought to climax, by the rhythm of the night Time stands still?
PastMidnight? A time to hush A time to listen A time to think A time to learn It's there for you It can hear your soul It'll all be there PastMidnight
ACOUSTIC SOLO VOCAL INTERLUDE ELECTRIC SOLO

Description: The thirteenth song from PastMidnight, and the first composition of 2002, "People" is a solemn tune that questions today's sometimes painful realizations of our culture's divisions and eludes to the possibility of healing the scars of global tragedies by uniting to defend our virtues. The composition of this song actually began just days after the terrible events of September 11, 2001, with the fall of the World Trade Center Towers in the United States. "People" is PastMidnight's contribution to all that have suffered from these painful tragedies. Our heartfelt best wishes and deepest condolences go out to all those who have felt these sorrowful times.
Why do people feel they've got to Cheat one another to win the game? Why do people feel they've got to Steal from one another to make life rich?
These people with the rose-colored glasses All they see is red
Let's tell the story without lies Let's make the peace saving lives Let's get ahead by giving back Let's win the game with pride
Why do people feel they've got to Beat one another to get the point across? Why do people feel they've got to Lie to one another to tell their tale?
These people with the rose-colored glasses All they see is red
Let's tell the story without lies Let's make the peace saving lives Let's get ahead by giving back Let's make a point to heal
INTERLUDE
Doesn't matter where they were born Doesn't matter how they were raised You can blame it on a broken home; blame the parents Say it's pressure of society, blame the establishment
Don't hide behind excuses, justice must prevail Or we won't survive
These people can't be helped Can't cleanse such polluted minds People choose their destiny We will choose to be free Only one way to heal Come together and stand as one Mend our hearts with what is right Rise united with our shield of pride
One giant stroke by the sword of love To sever racial and religious lines Dissension bleeds on the edge of the blade And we see reflections? Of a better world
Doin' my thing at work one day And the boss-lady comes up to me She points her finger at her door And she says to me "Won't you come this way." I rose right up and followed her I knew that she would like to play And as I fell in time with her swing Couldn't help but watch her sweet ass sway (Oh oh oh? Oh oh oh?)
Girl I gotta put you on Gotta put you on and take it down Girl I gotta put you on Gotta peel it off and go on down
Back at work to do my thing Gotta do my thing and fill another day All I really wanna do, is do my time and get my pay The boss lady comes and glares at me 'Cause I said that I wouldn't, I wouldn't play This time as she points to the door I know my ass is fired today (Oh oh oh? Oh oh oh?)
So I go on home and I tell my girl What the boss lady tried on me She holds me close and she holds me tight She tells me what I really need Well don't they know that my sweet girl Is the best one in the world I feel so fine, I feel so proud Wanna tell everybody loud! (Loud loud loud? Loud loud loud?)
CHORUS
INTERLUDE
Well don't they know that my sweet girl Is the best one in the world I feel so fine, I feel so proud Wanna tell everybody loud! (Loud loud loud? Loud loud loud?)
Girl I gotta put you on Gotta put you on and take it down Girl I gotta put you on Gotta peel it off and put you on and go on down
Description: A surprise favorite and major crowd pleaser at PastMidnightGigs, this version of Boney M's "Rasputin" was recorded off the floor at PastMidnight's 2006 New Year Bash!
There lived a certain man in Russia long ago He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow Most people looked at him with terror and with fear But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear He could preach the Bible like a preacher Full of ecstasy and fire But he also was the kind of teacher Women would desire
Ra ra Rasputin, Lover of the russian queen There was a cat that really was gone Ra ra Rasputin, Russia?s greatest love machine It was a shame how he carried on
He ruled the Russian land and never mind the czar But the kasachok he danced really wunderbar In all affairs of state he was the man to please But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze For the queen he was no wheeler dealer Though she?d heard the things he?d done She believed he was a holy healer Who would heal her son
CHORUS
But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger for power Became known to more and more people, The demands to do something about this outrageous Man Became louder and louder
This man?s just got to go! declared his enemies But the ladies begged don?t you try to do it, please No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms Though he was a brute they just fell into his arms Then one night some men of higher standing Set a trap, they?re not to blame Come to visit us they kept demanding And he really came
Ra ra Rasputin, Lover of the russian queen They put some poison into his wine Ra ra Rasputin, Russia?s greatest love machine He drank it all and he said I feel fine
Ra ra Rasputin, Lover of the russian queen They didn?t quit, they wanted his head Ra ra Rasputin, Russia?s greatest love machine And so they shot him till he was dead
Description: Although not their first project together, "River" is considered to be the first song of the PastMidnight era. A slower, sultry tune composed with a lot of care and feeling, this recording sparked a new passion for music composition in the duo, that had been absent for a long, long time.
Description: Running on the fuel of the "OneLight" fever, "Running" is the second attempt at an 'epic' tune, and the sixth song from PastMidnight. Pete's crying guitar accompanied by a trance-inducing rhythm, lays the groundwork for a song that attempts to push Quentin's vocal limits. Has this eerie song taken 'Q' to the edge? Take a listen to find out!
Don't try to run away Never try to hide You were always the strong one I would try to unwind I'll be your superhero Never see me cry I'm your man of steel No emotional side
Another fit of emotion That I lock inside Turn the key; throw it away These feelings are mine Take time - study me See the cancer I hide Is this how you remember me? Where's the child I used to be?
I am just a man inside I will love you anyway But you, you always run away
Tie me up and beat me down Punish me with disdain Take it slow and let's ease in Careful how we play Step around this mental disorder Tuck it safely away You refuse to see my truth My naked mind can't stay
I am just a man inside I will love you anyway You, you always run away
Description: The eighth song from PastMidnight, "Strong & Sweet" is an edgy, hard rock tune about love and lust. This is the recently re-made version, done with a fresh kick and some new licks by the PastMidnight group. PastMidnight welcomes its newest member - WyonnaAplin (Bass) - who can be heard layin' out the "balls of the music" in this tune. The completely new recording is a clean, powerful thumper, we think will rock your world !!!
Beautiful brown eyes starin' off into space I wonder if your sights are seein' my face? What's in your dream-time when you sleep late at night? Will you still be mine when dark turns to light?
Let's get hot... and sexual baby Fluids streamin'... find yourself screamin' Passion devours all of trust Creating a love laced in lust Twisting all night, reaching new heights Desire explodes from a fire Let's make it strong and oh so sweet
Tearin' through the cobwebs in my mind Visions of your beauty never hide Love is the snowflake that falls Souls are captured in my heart made of walls
Let's get hot... and sexual baby Fluids streamin'... find yourself screamin' Passion devours all of trust Creating a love laced in lust Twisting all night, reaching new heights Desire explodes from a fire Let's make it strong and oh so sweet
INTERLUDE
Incubation of masterbation shatters the shell Infant eyes shine for the second time It happened to me - you brought me from hell Wedding of flesh, bells echo a chime
Let's get hot... and sexual baby Fluids streamin'... find yourself screamin' Passion devours all of trust Creating a love laced in lust Twisting all night, reaching new heights Desire explodes from a fire Let's make it strong and oh so sweet
Description: The tenth song from PastMidnight, "Summertime" takes a venture down another road. Not ones to follow the rules, this song was written during the summer of 2001 and later released in September, closer to the Fall and Winter seasons. A fun 'feel-good' tune about the joys of summer, perhaps this tune will warm your heart during those cold winter months.
Summer is here ? doo doo doo doo This time is mine ? hey yah yah yah We'll head to the beach ? dee dee dee dee We'll splash in the waves ? dee doo doo doo
Oh it's summertime Whiskey, women, and wine Oh it's summertime And we're feelin' fine
Steaks on the Bar-B ? hey yah yah yah Beer chillin' on the ice ? hey hey yah Layin' on the lawn ? dee dee dee dee Great party in the yard ? doo doo doo
Oh it's summertime Whiskey, women, and wine Oh it's summertime And we're feelin' fine
Description: The seventh song from PastMidnight, and their third rock tune, "Sweater" came from Pete's riff archives. The Chorus lines were stashed with this smokin' riff, and they continue their life into this song that has long been burning to be completed. On the foundation of a basic 12-bar blues formula, this song has been juiced up with a hot rhythm section and some rockin' vocal harmonies.
So you say you?re not that kind of girl I might be that kind of guy Won?t ask for excuses; won?t tell you why We both have our reasons; there?s nothing to deny
All or nothing, or nothing at all Stay if you want; let?s make it your call Dream to hope, but don?t throw my heart around
Maybe we can make it for tonight Neither you or I is wrong or right Flip a coin; will it be your place or mine? Is it a matter of now, or ?til the end of time?
CHORUS
SOLO
If we play it safe, are we risking our hearts? Is tonight the end or just the start? If we say goodbye, is it something to forget? If we stay the course, will it end in regret?
All or nothing, or nothing at all Stay if you want; let?s make it your call All or nothing, or nothing at all Stay if you want; let?s make it your call Dream to hope, but don?t throw my heart around
I feel your soul calling to me But I am lost; I cannot see Find myself looking in circles, all alone Been on this search before ? so far gone
Where am I to go? Where am I, where am I to go?
